Spotlight on Our Grantees
Barrington Junior Women's Club

Celebrating 80 years of service to the community of Barrington, the members of the Barrington Junior Women's Club are committed to improving the lives of women, children, and seniors in our community through volunteerism. And the Barrington Splash Pad project is a shining example of that commitment.

zz splashpad 400This year in recognition of the Club's 80th Anniversary, they wanted to leave a lasting legacy for Barrington families. This project is similar to the work they have done in the past with The Pepper Tree House, Memorial Park, Family Waiting Area in the Emergency Department of Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, and the Safety Town Permanent Site. Their passion is to leave a beautiful, permanent play-space that fulfills an unmet need in Barrington.

The Splash Pad Park will be open to the Barrington community for free during the morning and evening hours. This is a critical time for young families to engage with their children outside.

The Barrington Park District pool does not open until noon, which conflicts with sleep schedules and is not conducive for those with special needs. There are no other aquatic based facilities in the area that are free, available during critical times and that provide these special therapeutic amenities. This Splash Pad Park will provide a safe summer haven for ALL Barrington families.

The project's estimated cost is $551,000. BJWC is partnering with other community groups to raise $400,000 of that cost and the Barrington Park District has committed to cover project costs over the $400,000.

The Barrington Area Community Foundation is proud to grant $70,000 which will be applied to BJWC's $400,000 committment.
